Fresh Tunes: Jay Z DOA (death of autotune)

I love hiphop-well when rappers wrote good, smart, witty ryhmes and when they come out with well written songs. WIth some of the silly wannabes out there right now (I am ANTI soldier boy) I am keen to see how Jay Z fares with the album he'll be releasing. Jay Z is set to release The Blueprint 3 in September and I know I'm hella late with catching on to this song but I must say that I appreciate that he's changed up the production going for a band sound with little trace of produced music and he sounds good lyrically.

My favourite line in the song has to be: "I know we in a recession but the music that ya'll makin gon make it the Great Depression" Having him rap in front of the band reminds me of the MTV Unpluged session he did back in 2001 with The Roots and Angie Stone etc.

Enjoy!

*UPDATE*

Here is the second single off the Blueprint 3. Featuring Kanye West and Rihanna the song is Run this town

Ronin Films

Ronin films is a Canberra based film distribution company. My partner after one of his long sessions trawling the net for all things PNG asked me to do a post on them after he found that they'd had a sprisingly long list of PNG films in their distiribution list.

Ronin films have been around for over thirty years and they primarily distribute independent films into the "non-theatrical" section of the film industry. The films they distibute on are hand picked by their founder Andrew Pike-"The criteria for selection are intrinsic quality and educational interest".

At present they have a list of about 17 PNG films the oldest dating back to 1976 (GOGODALA: A Cultural Revival) and the most recent films being Papa Bilong Chimbu (2007). For a full list of the PNG films on their distribution list, visit this link.

Will Genia makes the Wallabies

Reds scrum-half Will Genia found his inspiration from a phone call from Australian coach Robbie Deans whilst recovering from a recent finger injury.

"It's unbelievable. I was sitting in the office doing a business diploma course and I was given a copy of a media release. I read it and couldn't believe it," said Genia.

A big congrats to Will!

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

I had been anticipating the sequel of Transformers and last night I finally got to watch it. Just yesterday, there were reports of Megan Fox bagging the movie but that didn't put me off (her acting is pretty mediocre anyways).

Without giving too much away, the special effects were awesome and along with the old characters reprising their roles again, there was also the inclusion of several new Autobots (Mudflap and Skids with a few others) and Decepticons.

Maybe I'm still on a high after watching the movie but I give it a strong 4/5 stars.
