A day in the Life: Why a woman cries

I got this in an email to day and I just had to share it.

"A little boy asked his mother, "Why are you crying?" "Because I'm a woman , " she told him.

"I don't understand , " he said. His Mom just hugged him and said , "And you never will."

Later the little boy asked his father ,"Why does mother seem to cry for no reason?"

"All women cry for no reason," was all his dad could say.

The little boy grew up and became a man , still wondering why women cry...

Finally he put in a call to God. When God got on the phone , he asked , "God , why do women cry so easily?"

A day in the life: Possessing your future

Since my return from PNG, I have realised that I am spiritually running on empty. When I was at my most focussed and "on the up" I was in the last couple of years in high school and I was actively refuelling my spiritual tank with prayer and reading the bible and attending church and mass (I went to a Catholic high school).

Living in the "white man's world" it can be so easy to get caught up and lose sight of where you're headed. Long story short- I've felt a strong urge to go to church and just listen and absorb the weekly sermons/teachings and just try to discern where to go from this stagnant phase of my life.

These past  two weeks, firstly, we had Pastor Peter Mortlock speak about the sowing of the seeds for miracles and of the prayer over those seeds. This week, the guest speaker, Pastor Patrick Ondrey talked about Possessing Your Future.

These two sermons spoke greatly to me as someone who is stuck in a rutt-career wise and life wise and I received a kick in the backside cos I came to see that I need to make some changes in order for me to progress. Pastore Patrick spoke about the 6 Laws of Possessing Your Future and he listed them in the following order:

1. The Cut
2. The Fill
3. The Beyond
4, The Shut
5 The Open
6. The Move

Pastor says it better so click here to download

I apologise for not going into detail and for this post being poorly written but its after 12 midnight and the drive I had to make this a stellar post ran out of fuel.

So I end this post with a HAVE A BLESSED AND PRODUCTIVE WEEK!

A Day in the Life: double dose of bad news- I'll miss you Patricia Negints! :'(

Its gonna hit me like a tonne of bricks when I step off that plane.
Its never good going home, when your purpose is to say goodbye and even more so when the death was avoidable.

Precious are the breaths we draw and the moments we spend with loved ones. When they go so suddenly-damn its unbearable. In rush in the whys, hows and blame game but pouring over the sequence of moments leading up to that time-cannot alter that state of the present.

This is sending my world reeling. Its doesn't feel like you're gone Pat and I don't want to come back knowing you won't be there.

I'm taking a deep breath and biding my time till I land in Pom and reality sets in...

"She who has gone, so we but cherish her memory, abides with us, more potent, nay, more present than the living man"~ Antoine de Saint-Exupery

Fragility, Mere mortal, no invincible, life is short-thoughts on Keegan

On Tuesday 22nd Feburary 2011, Keegan Willams passed away. He was a son, nephew, friend, flat mate, boyfriend. This guy was full of life, bursting with energy and talent and it was only three weekends ago that they he and friends had been looking for, of all things a hack saw so that they could cut a lock from a boat and go out fishing.

I didn't know you very well but the one time I saw you, I recall this bright smile and wave you gave when we drove Harry by your house last year. In that single moment I saw a glimpse of the person your were and for me I felt this was someone you had to meet and kick it with, at least once so that you can soak a up a little bit of their aura. I'm saddened that I did not get to do that.

Gone too soon is simply the thought that comes to mind when I think about you. And its in moments like this that I am suddenly reminded of the fragility of life and the realness of the saying "tomorrow is not promised".

Your passing has taught me, if anything, to be thankful of the days I have, to bask in the presence of my loved ones, to remind them that I love them and most of all to carry myself with at least a fraction of the positive energy you had.

You'll be missed Keegan.
Rest in eternal peace in the Lord's arms.

A day in the life: reflections...

Funny how its been acouple of years since I started blogging I had visions of this eventually turning into a site for young Papua New Guinean women to converge and read up on fashion and music and all that kinda stuff, like a clutchmag for us PNG women.

4 years, one uni degree and a baby later I am blogging less, tweeting more and working a double shift as a parent/mother. My how life changes things up and my how we are tested as and shaped by our experiences on this life journey.

So my blog is evolving and I'm gonna rename it once more-the socialista was lame-o anyways-me being faux fashion poser, again lame.

I'm pulling down the head for now and leave it blank for the moment till I come up with something more appropriate.

For now my dreams and aspirations are the same but my immediate priority is to be a mother so my goals on the next page are becoming painstakingly slow to accomplish. God willing, I will be blessed with the strength and drive to get where He plans for me to be.

check out one of my reminisce songs, uni days were crazy lol

4 MiMi!!!!

Forget this lame dude and poor excuse of a man
Far beyond the deep recesses of your mind
Let him wander but never in your mind
Let him linger but only cos he wishes he his time back with you

A tough situation cos we come from broken homes
Want something better for our sons, for them to know
A childhood without the pain, without the struggle
So we sacrifice our pain and hope we can maintain but to what extent till we encroach on our own happiness?

Lets forsake this troubled mess and walk away and find another way
Because God is good, he'l be your hero-walk you through this pain and carry you through those darkest of times

A Queen you are much too regel for this sh*t
Destined for bigger things than you can ever imagine
Take your good news and plan for the future
Life's too short and time too precious to waste it trying to pick the pieces

Hang in there Mi!

as cheesy as this image might be, just hope it inspires you a lil

A Day in the Life

The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man who lives fully is prepared to die at any time. ~Mark Twain

My grandfather or bubu man as I call him, passed on today. He went knowing that it was his time to go,even having a small lotu before he died. He was to a lot of people many things but to me he was inspirtational, full of life experience, wise, strong, fearless, adventurous and full of bounce-never letting his age stop him from doing what he wanted.

He had seven children, could count and and name his grandchildren, recite any verse from the bible and he was always impecablly dressed unless he was at home.

My fondest memories of him would be the sabbath school song he taught us when I was 5or so and the way he ended all his prayers -something I took on and still do when I pray.

While I wish he would have hung on a little bit longer to see me and my son at the end of the year, I feel at ease knowing that he left at peace with the world.

I'll miss him greatly

My apologies. New posts are way past due. I'm in the process of creating a new look for the blog. Between that, working and getting ready to have a baby, my life is hectic to say the least.

Stay tuned...

A day in the life: how hard it is for a young, dark female

Last year I sourced an article from Clutch Magazine online- Degree=job??? and the more I am able to count the weeks passing without success in getting a job at graduate or entry level, the more I realise how hard success is to
achieve.
Here I am, two months away from holding my formal qualification in my hands and the fact is, it may not mean squat. Why? Well now more than ever, competition for jobs is extremely high and coming off the mark with two strikes against me (gender and ethnicity) makes it less easy for to get where I want to be.

Trawling through job adverts in my chosen field (journalism, PR, media, publishing, and likes) leaves one a little disheartened when a minimum of 6 months experience is a requirement and all I have is countless assignment work (which I doubt counts as experience), the voluntary work I've done for my student association, my work experience in fields besides the one I am now choosing.

Looking back I admit I screwed up when I chose not to seek out intern opportunities or taking the chance to write articles for the campus magazine (even if I thought it was bogus I should have written something I guess). In my defence, I was young, dumb and ill advised as to what my options were.

So where to from my present state of joblessness? The pages of seek.co.nz, the situations vacant columns of the North Shore Times and a 75 per cent chance of a starter career in fashion retail.

A day in the life

When your mind starts to turn to jello (jelly)

Three weeks into the holidays and I am getting bored with a capital "B". It would probably seem stupid that after all of the assignment deadlines and exam prepping that I am missing all that mentally challenging stuff. Perhaps missing is not the appropriate word. I just need a little mental stimulation to get me going again so I can start to write something half decent for the blog.

Without the immediate access to the net and my files on my computer back in Auckland I am sat here at without a "real" topic to write about and am resorting to a filler for the moment.

The Festive Season

Is it just me or isn't it getting to be the case that the older you get the more likely it is that you begin to carve out your own family Christmas lunches and dinners. Well that was stating the obvious wasn't it (duh).

New Years with the mum and dad gradually turn into NYEs at Lamana before the legal age and then drinking binges at several (2-3) clubs into the wee hours of new years day and missing the barbie with the folks one New Years day. (NOTE this was based very loosely on my own life)

Gifts become less individual and pricier, more demanding more "family" oriented whilst cards become standard issue when you can't afford to send out all the gifts.

One starts to wonder whether we are really in the "spirit of Christmas" come December or just succumbing to the money making prerogatives of this day and age, falling deeper and deeper into a heartless, monotonous cycle rather then really seeing the wonder of Christmas as being that time of year when you do your reality check and realise that family and friends are really what make matter the most.

Lets hope people also realise the importance of that bit as well keep in mind those who don't get the chance to celebrate Christmas at all.

A Day in the Life: Figuring out life

Reaching milestones is part of life. I've reached another milestone, and it marks another stage of my life. My life as a uni student is coming to an end and pretty soon I'm going to be facing real world challenges i.e. making rent, climbing the career ladder, balancing work and life.

This past week I've been sinking into holiday mode. Exams are over, there'll be parties during the festive season to attend (grins to self), and Christmas dinner and welcoming the New Year.

I realise that there are soooo many things to do and the trouble is planning things right and giving each segment of my life the appropriate length of time. There's finding a job, deciding WHERE to spend the holidays and even then do I have the money to do that? Just when I thought life was gonnna get a lil bit clearer, I have more decisions to make.

But with all things you grin and bear it and after all of it you find you've grown a little, had fun doing it and you're ready to do it all over again.

As of last week, right after my last exam (at uni ever, fingers crossed) the only thing on my mind right now is spending down time with the important people in my life followed by getting into the "real world". I guess the thing is to take things one thing at a time.

A day in the life: my rants and random thoughts

Neighbours and their [Timbland] music
It's a Saturday afternoon. My neighbours (a white couple, 19 0r 20, I can't be sure, probably enrolled at Vic Uni too) are playing Timbaland's Shock Value for the umpteenth time. I get it folks, you're into his latest offering but that shitt is getting tired.BTW you were 4 months late in picking up that album SMH (if you're reading this then you probably sense my irritation at people who catch on late to new music releases, something I pride myself on-another indication that I'm probably turning into a highly strung biatch too but I digress) I can now identfy each song by its heavy base beats,timbland-esque production as well as his wack attempts at singing (but I guess he's more bearable than P.Diddy and TI on My dear)

I'm getting old

I know I'm only 22 but it seems like every second day I am reminded that I'm getting old. Either that or I'm nostalgic with my music and can't seem to understand how Ay Bay bay got popular. I find myself downloading music from the 90s just to counter the rubbish that's coming outta hiphop, in fact I'm gonna say it now: I confess I've never heard Ay bay bay the whole way through or Crank dat. I'd rather listen to The Fugees or some Tupac or Common thank you very much.
